"What is happening?!"
There are so many significant conversations from this trailer which connect to quotes from 'A Girl in School Uniform (walks into a bar)'. This play is so very relevant and I am so proud to have been afforded the opportunity to work on something so important. "Women and girls keep disappearing. The police are at a loss. What reactions are we seeing from the public? ⛔️ “What can I do about it? I’m just one person.” ⛔️ “This only happens to certain girls…” ⛔️ “Well, she shouldn’t have been out” Any of these sound familiar? Join us at The Junction on 27-29 May for DDG’s production of Lulu Raczka’s “A Girl in School Uniform (Walks into a Bar)”. "Why should I care about your daughter?"
For months now, there have been regular power outages in the city. During these blackouts, women and girls go missing. Schoolgirl Steph comes to a bar and asks barmaid Bell to help find her missing friend, Charlie. But Charlie isn't the first girl to go missing - there are so many others who remain nameless until their faces show up on yet another missing poster! Join us at The Junction in Alserkal Avenue on 27-29 May for DDG’s production of Lulu Raczka’s “A Girl in School Uniform (Walks into a Bar)”. As the play contains mature content and occasional strong language, and some potions of the play are performed in darkness, it is suitable for those aged 15 years and higher. Tickets now at Platinumlist.net. Trailer by Resurrect Studios.

Fun with (Bollywood) Fusion
When deciding on the styles he was going to embed into this workshop, Sashin Rob Kandhai considered multiple options and eventually settled on a classical Indian fusion and the increasingly popular Afrofusion as a way to show how versatile dance can be. What I love about experiencing Sashin's choreography workshops in action is how seriously he takes his craft as he educates others in the details and intricacies thereof... but I also just ADORE how much fun every, single person has on that dancefloor! I cannot wait to see what we can do with our Artist in Residence project after the summer holidays (see below for a sneak peek!) A massive thank you to Sima Performing Arts for hosting us and to Calvin Serrao for filming and editing this awesome behind-the-scenes look into yet another exciting co|lab classroom workshop! Oh, and before we forget... audition announcements for our official Artist in Residence project for 2022 called 'Antigone Retold' will be happening soon! Written and directed by Lauren Noble (with the help of Sophocles) and choreographed by Sashin Kandhai, we are so very excited to find the perfect cast to bring our shared vision to life... so watch this space! ° ° ° #colaboratory #colabcreations #colabclassroom #colabcollective #colabinconvo #dramallamasindubai #performingarts #theatre #dance #choreography #stage #screen #artistinresidence #artseducation #artistry #creativecareers #bollywoodfusion 🎤 Ghungroo by Arijit Singh and Shilpa Rao 🎥 Filmed and edited by Calvin Serrao
Bollywood Fusion with Sashin Kandhai
This year our Artist in Residence is none other than Sashin Kandhai, an international stage and screen dancer and choreographer who has produced work in over 10 countries and has sights set on Dubai for 2022! Working with co|laboratory this year, Sashin really wanted to engage the idea of connecting by giving back to our performing arts community here in the UAE... a dance masterclass in Bollywood Fusion seemed like a really fun place to start! A massive thank you to Calvin Serrao for filming and editing this awesome behind-the-scenes look into yet another exciting co|lab classroom workshop! Oh, and before I forget: audition announcements for our official Artist in Residence project for 2022 called 'Antigone Retold' will be happening soon! Individual Showreel: Sharmin
Playing the titular role of Antigone by the Greek playwright Sophocles, Sharmin created an intensity using a strong sense of vocality alongside an often still yet entirely dynamic physicality. Her absolute understanding of her beats made such a difference to the engagement of us as the audience as she performed for us in July.
Individual Showreel: Calvin
Calvin opted to play a cinematic role by transferring the acting style from filmic to one that was applicable to the stage. Commodus from 'Gladiator' is a character with many layers of evil manifesting in different ways on screen and he was played by the amazing Joaquin Phoenix - a lot to live up to but Calvin LOVES a challenge! For a stage novice, we think he did brilliantly!
